What Are Amanita muscaria Mushrooms?
Amanita muscaria (also known by the English-language common name fly agaric) is a psychoactive species of mushroom which contains many entheogenic elements, most notably muscimol, but also including muscazone, ibotenic acid and muscarine. It produces a much different experience compared to a Psilocybe mushroom.

History of the Amanita muscaria Mushroom
The mushroom has a long history of use in Asia and Northern Europe. And they have had a religious significance in Siberian culture and possibly also in ancient Indian and Scandinavian cultures. Wasson argued in his 1968 book, "Soma - Divine Mushroom of Immortality" that Amanita muscaria was the mythical Soma of the Indian Vedic hymns. In western Siberia, the use of A. muscaria was restricted to shamans, who used it as an alternate method of achieving a trance state. (Normally, Siberian shamans achieve a trance state by prolonged drumming and dancing.) In eastern Siberia, A. muscaria was used by both shamans and laypeople alike, and was used recreationally as well as religiously.
